Storytime!

Join us throughout the summer for the following weekly storytimes:

Preschool Storytime 

Mondays – 10:00 a.m.

Story program for children ages 3-5 years old and their caregivers.  Lively time of sharing books, songs, puppets, nursery rhymes, early literacy and pre-school activities. No Registration required. With Mr. Evan.

Bedtime Stories
Tuesday Nights – 6:30 p.m.

Story program for working parents and their children ages 2-5. Join us on Tuesday nights for stories, rhymes and lively participation fun. Pajamas, blankets and stuffed animals welcome. No Registration required. With Miss Jackie.

Hood Park Storytimes

Join us at Hood Park every Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. for summer books and stories from June 18-July 30. All ages.

Infant Storytime
Wednesdays – 10:00 a.m.

A 20-30 minute lapsit storytime for infants birth to 12 months and their caregivers. Learn fingerplays, songs and simple baby sign language to share with your babies as they sit in your lap. No Registration required. With Miss Kathryn.

The New Mother Goose On The Loose
Thursdays – 10:00 a.m.

Toddler storytime for children 12 to 36 months and their caregivers, using music, fingerplays, props and movement. No registration required. With Miss Eileen

The Summer Reading Program officially begins! Come get your reading log and begin your reading adventure with our Dig into Reading Program: Raiders of the Lost Library! Journey to Egypt and keep track of the books you read all summer and enjoy our great activities and prizes.

Tuesday, June 18

Skippyjon Jones Goes to Egypt 3:30 p.m.

Join everyone’s favorite Siamese cat (who thinks he’s a Chihuahua) Skippyjon Jones, as he travels to ancient Egypt for Mummy Trouble, where “Mummitos rest in peas”. Make your own Mummy to go. Ages 4-8 with caregiver. With Miss Kathy.

Wednesday, June 19

A Night in the Egyptian Museum 6:00 p.m.

The Children’s Area has been transformed into an Egyptian Museum for the summer. Take a guided tour with Indiana Evan, as we pretend to be archeologists and “Dig” into amazing facts about the pyramids, sphinxes and the mummy’s curse. All ages. With Mr. Evan.

Aggies, Shooters and Swirls: The Magical World of Marbles 3:30 p.m.

If you don’t know what a “Snooger” or a “Cat’s Eye” is, or how to play “Bombsies”, stop by and learn how to “Knuckle Down” in the old-fashioned game of Marbles. Ages 5-11 with caregiver. With Mr. Evan.

Magician Mike Bent: Readers of the Lost Book 2:30 p.m.

Join Nickelodeon Award-Winning children’s magician Mike Bent in an epic quest as he searches the ruins of an ancient temple for a priceless artifact-an overdue library book! This entertaining adventure features magic, comedy, storytelling, puppets and music! All ages with caregiver.

Wednesday, June 26

Chess Club 1:30 p.m.

Learn how to play this incredible game of skill and strategy with special guest Dan Kilgour. Please bring an extra board, pieces and a friend. For children grades 3-5. Chess Club meets every other Wednesday throughout our Summer Program.

Thursday, June 27

Shark Attack! 1:30 p.m.

Are you fast enough to escape a shark? Learn about these amazing creatures of the deep with stories, action rhymes, crafts and shark escape games. Ages 4-11 with caregiver. With Miss Kathryn.

Summer Kick-off in the Park! 5-7:30 p.m.

Start the summer off with a bang! If you haven’t already, sign up for the Summer Reading Program and join us for an evening of fun with children’s musician Harley Smith, face-painting, and bouncy houses in MacGregor Park. In the case of inclement weather, this event will be held in the Adams Memorial Building. This event is co-sponsored by Derry Parks and Recreation, The Derry Public Library and the Taylor Library.

A Fine Time with Madeline 1:30 p.m.

“In an old house in Paris that was covered with vines, lived twelve little girls in two straight lines…and the smallest one was Madeline.” Discover the delightful world of this classic story book character. Have a fine time with all things Madeline: stories, games and a make your own Madeline puppet craft.  Registration is limited to 25 children, please call or register online. Ages 4-11 with caregiver. Creature Teachers: Live Animal ShowPrint

Diggin’ Critters 1:30 p.m.

Meet the diggin’ creatures of the earth who spend their lives underground. Learn which creatures dig and why they do it. Some of them may surprise you! Our special “Animal Ambassadors” the Creature Teachers have lots of animals to share. Don’t miss it! All ages with caregiver. This event is co-sponsored by the Taylor Library.

Chapter Readers Book Club (Grades 4-5) 3:30 p.m.

The Red Pyramid by Rick Riordan

Mystery and mayhem ensue the night that Carter and Sadie are reunited with their father, the brilliant Egyptologist, Dr. Julius Kane. When the Egyptian god Set is accidentally summoned up in the British Museum, the children are forced to embark on a dangerous journey to save their father and discover the truth about their family, as the gods of ancient Egypt begin to awaken.

Eric Carle Collage Art-Dig It! 1:30 p.m.

Experience the art of collage using colored papers and glue to create your own amazing pictures. Listen to some of your favorite Eric Carle stories and learn how this master collage artist creates his distinctive illustrations. All materials will be provided, but you are welcome to bring other papers to use and share. Ages 5-11. With Miss Kathryn.

Puppet Show!

Small Brown Dog’s Bad Remembering Day 1:30 p.m.

Join us for this dog-filled puppet show based on the book by Mike Gibbie. Small Brown Dog has a big problem. He woke up on the wrong side of bed and can’t remember his name. Whistle along with the dogs in his neighborhood as they help him find his lost collar. All ages with caregiver.

Jumanji: A Jungle Adventure Carnival 6:00 p.m.

The library has been overrun by lions, elephants and mischievous monkeys! Put on your best safari wear and enter the world of Jumanji, the jungle adventure game based on the book by Chris Van Allsburg. Hang out in the cabana for tasty safari snacks, then make your way to the Golden City by trying your hand at playing a host of jungle-skill games in the children’s area. All ages with caregiver. Costumes encouraged.

Underground Town 1:30 p.m.

If you live in Derry, you live in a large town built on top of the soil. We have a Post Office, schools, and lots of houses. Prairie dogs live in towns too, but theirs are underground! Hear a story about feisty prairie dogs, then help us create our own system of burrows. Have fun crawling around in our collapsible tubes. Ages 3-7 with caregiver. With Miss Courtney.

Pyramids, Pharaohs and Ancient Egypt! 1:30 p.m.

Discover the mysteries of ancient Egypt, see the pyramids and learn how mummies are made. Join our special guest Amateur Egyptologist and Egyptian Tour guide Paulette Morin as she brings her educational-museum program of Egyptian artifacts, jewelry, clothing, wigs and history to the library. Bring your camera and get your picture taken with our Mummy afterwards. Ages 4-11 with caregiver.

Early Chapter Readers Book Club (Grades 2-3) 3:30 p.m.

Mummies in the Morning: Magic Tree House #3

Jack and his sister Annie are whisked off by the magic tree house to yet another adventure. This time to ancient Egypt where the meet a long-dead queen who needs their help to solve a mystery. Will they be able to help her in time, or become mummies themselves? Activity and snacks provided. Registration is required. With Miss Jackie.

In the Hall of the Mountain King 1:30 p.m.

Enter the hall of the troll king of the mountain, in the Norwegian legend of Peer Gynt.  Make a troll mask and act out the story as it comes alive through music, creative movement and games. Ages 4-11 with caregiver. With Miss Eileen.

Tuesday, July 30

Enter the Rabbit Hole: Alice in Wonderland Mad Tea Party 1:30 p.m.

Join The Mad Hatter, Alice and the rest of the wild inhabitants of Wonderland for an afternoon of silliness, snacks and zany games, including flamingo croquet. Enter our crazy costume contest, with prizes for best Alice and Wonderland-Weirdos. Ages 4-11 with caregiver. With Mr. Evan & Miss Courtney.

Wednesday, July 31

Wayne from Maine: Children’s Musician 6:30 p.m.

Wayne from Maine is back in New Hampshire for this special evening of children’s music in MacGregor Park. Learn how to “Grow Your Mind” with silly songs and audience participation fun. This event is sponsored by the Taylor Library, Parks and Recreation and the Derry Public Library. All ages with caregiver.

LEGOS: Brick by Brick 1:30 p.m.

Can’t get enough of those LEGO bricks? Want to join forces with other creative kids? Use the library’s LEGOS to make your own magnificent creations to put on display. There will be activities for two age groups: 3-6 and 7-11. Younger children will have access to larger Duplo blocks, while older children will use traditional LEGOS. Ages 3-11 with caregiver. With Miss Courtney.

Tops & Bottoms: A Lap-Puppet Show 1:30 p.m.

When wiley Hare figures out a way to trick his rich and lazy neighbor Mr. Bear out of his food, there’s no end of trouble and laughs to be had. Join Mr. Evan as he shares this wonderful folktale as a Lap-Puppet show along with other fun vegetable tales. Ages 4-11 with caregiver. With Mr. Evan.

For children grades 3-5. This is the last Chess Club meeting for the summer. No registration required.

Join Lindsay and her new, blue, giant triceratops and other puppet friends for stories, folktales and lots of laughs.

One Hundred Book/50 Hour Party (2:00 pm)

When you read one hundred books or fifty hours, you’ll receive an invitation to this special party for extra motivated summer readers. Enjoy games, activities and best of all FREE books!
