Genealogy Series: Penning the Perfect Obit

No one likes to think about writing an obituary, and yet this small contribution to the weekly newspaper is a vital narrative. Obituaries can celebrate life, personality, struggles and triumphs. Unfortunately, obituaries are often left to the last minute, relying on the most willing family member to dig up details. Why not take a moment now to write that obit? Do it for yourself or do it for a friend! We’ll examine a variety of obituaries. We’ll discuss standard framework and structure.

Genealogy Series: Town Histories as a Local Touchstone

Town histories, often penned by local experts and town historians, can be a treasure trove of information. Made up of local history and genealogies, not only can they help make linkages throughout the family tree, but they can also build context for the lives of your ancestors and be a springboard to further research. Join us as we explore these useful secondary resources! This program was rescheduled from January 24th.

Probably the most famous film critic of all time, Roger Ebert left his mark on the world of cinema- and gave Liz, our resident film librarian, her first glimpse at how to critically look at film. We're going to take a look at his early days in Chicago, the juggernaut that was Siskel and Ebert, and his constant quest to elevate new filmmakers.

Oh, and we WILL be talking about that movie he made with Russ Meyer...
