Technical Services Assistant
12 hours per week, including mornings and afternoons.
Have you ever wondered how the library keeps its collection so neat, tidy and organized? Are you curious about how books that regularly circulate amongst our patrons are prepped, and when necessary, repaired? (Perhaps you already know, but want to be a part of it!) If so, the Technical Services department at the Derry Public Library is seeking you – a motivated person with strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently – to join our fun, creative team!
DUTIES: This job primarily entails book processing and repair, monitoring the mending shelves, and sorting donated items and discards. It also involves shelf reading and shelving materials when necessary.
Our ideal candidate should have great customer service skills and facility with computers. Candidates must be detail oriented, have skill in alphabetizing and putting materials in correct Dewey Decimal order, be in good physical condition and able to push heavy carts, reach upper and lower shelves, lift, and stand for long periods of time. Given the nature of book mending, a candidate should have good eye-hand coordination and finger dexterity, as well as patience and perhaps most important of all… a sense of humor!
Starting salary: $13.13 per hour. Benefits include 1-week of paid vacation annually, and 1- week of personal time off annually. This position will include morning and afternoon hours throughout the week, with the exact schedule to be determined.
